Arabescato Faniello

LITHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND GEOLOGICAL SITUATION

Breccia in clasts of white color, well flattened on the schistosity surfaces, in cement with a dominant limestone gray-green color. The color of the concrete is due to microcrystalline pyrite. Geological age: Lower Lias.

The deposit appears in lenses in the mass of marbles, in the complex structure of Arni; the scrub verse dips about 40° towards the SE.

PROPERTIES CHARACTERISTICS OF BLOCKS AND SHEETS

The blocks normally have dimensions of 3.00×1.60×1.30 m useful for diamond frames. The type of cut depends on the desired ornamentation and the greater or lesser regularity of the marble clasts: with cuts to the “towards” the clasts are very elongated and the material takes on the appearance of a vein, if cut to the “against” we obtain the ” flowering ”characteristic of the arabescato.

The slabs are generally 2 or 3 cm thick; for particular uses they can be cut with a minimum thickness of 1 cm. The normally best effect for this material made into slabs is obtained with polishing; Good results are obtained with fine sanding and “egg skin” treatment. The material, due to its mineralogical characteristics, although used outdoors, finds the best uses indoors.
